SCIENCE WEEK 5TH & 6TH CLASS

The children in 5th & 6th class learned about famous scientists during science week. They learned about the inventions of Thomas Edison (light bulb) Percy Shaw (reflectors on the road called cats eyes) Robert Boyle (flames need air) Frances Rynde (the syringe) and Sr. Francis Beaufort from Navan (wind speed).

The Digestive System was studied by the children and the function of the Mouth, Oesophagus, Stomach, Liver, Pancreas, Large and Small Intestines was explored.

The life cycle of the fish was aso studied. Children found this very intersting to research and loved looking at the differences between the fish.

Our "NO Smoking" projects were examined and discussed. Each child presented their project in a poster and explained the dangers of smoking. We examined warning signs on cigarette packets and watched an interesting film about the contents of cigarettes. All of the above certainly turned them off smoking. An oath was signed by each child promising that they would never smoke.

SCIENCE BLAST RDS

On Wednesday March 6th, 5th & 6th classes represented our school at the ESB Science Blast in the RDS.

Our project called ' The Ballinlough Motor Works' was an electric car which could sense both obstacles & paths. This machine was created using a Rasberry Pi, and was put together in our classroom by the children with the help of Peter and Marcia Hand.

The base of the car was kindly made on a 3D printer by Aaron and Eoin Rothwells uncle and Gerry McDonnell computers helped us out by providing a screen to display the computer code.

The judges gave us a very high recommendation for this very well thought out project and we all learned a great deal from the whole process.

Well done and thanks to all involved.

Our Term so far

Here in 5th and 6th we have had a busy start to the first term. Our motto is " Count on me " and we have even learned the song to go with it! We have welcomed three new students and they have already made great friends.

Our Rugbt Blitz was a huge success and great fun all round. Our boys and girls football games are most enjoyable with special thanks to Treasa and Pauric for all their help. We are really busy with our history project work and enjoyed Malachy's informative visit to our classroom. We have created a beautiful Mindfull board for our classroom and relax with our Mindfulness Matters music regularily.

Meath Cumann Na mBunscoil 2018

In March this year I was proud to have been picked to represent my school in The 20 Meath Cumann Na mBunscoil half time game between Meath vs Cork. The event was held in Pairc Tailteann and I played in half forward position. I was delighted that I managed to score 2 goals and my team went on to win the game. It was a great experience and I had a great day.

LOUGHCREW TOUR

All in 1st & 2nd class had a great day out on Wednesday, we headed off to Loughcrew Megalithic Centre for our school tour. The sun was shining and we had great fun in the adventure playground, then had an art lesson and created fabulous 3D paintings. After lunch our tour guide Fechin showed us around Maggie Heaney's cottage, which was brilliant. Fechin then took us up to the Cairns, where we got to sit on the witches chair and make a wish. Then we went inside the tombs to see the famous symbles. A great day of fun and learning was had by all. We definitely recommend this day out....
