Autism Awareness Week

Today April 2nd it is World Autism Day and staff and pupils all came together and wore something blue to school. We are always happy to highlight such great awarenesses. As a school we are learning to understand and embrace all our differences, unique qualities, inclusions and most importantly that we work better together as a team and in doing so success is unlimited and can be achieved by each and everyone of us.

A special word of thanks to Ken and Aileen Rothwell who very generously gave each pupil a goody bag.

World Down Syndome Day Celebrations

As March 21st is World Down Syndome Day our whole school came together to produce a video celebrating this event. All children learned to sign to the song "This is me" They chose this song as it represented strengh, individuality, confidence and how we can all succeed together. It was great fun to learn and children really took it to their hearts and practised not only at school but perfected the routine at home too. We as staff are immensely proud of our students for achieving this and they deserve all the praise and amazing feedback they are recieving.

This video can be seen on You Tube either by selecting Ballinlough ns or Down Syndrome Ireland. It can also be viewed via our Parents Ass, FB page. The Meath Chronicle also showed the video. We are currently heading to 3.5k views. well done to all involved.

Also as part of the celebrations the children donated 2euro each and 'rocked their socks to school' Plus we held a crossbar challenge, well done to those who succeded in hitting the crossbar !!

All in all it was a fantastic day and we raised 200euro which is being sent to Down Syndrome Ireland.

Please check out the video on You Tube as its well worth the view..

Congratulations everyone #veryproudtobeatballinloughns.

The raising of the Health Promotion School's flag took place this week. The hard working committee Trease, Rory, Ellen, Philip, Ella, Kate & Zywia were joined by INTO President (and brother of Mrs Reilly) Joe Killeen to raise this much sought after flag. Special thanks go to our wonderful parents council for providing & errecting a plaque in our tennis court and for this occasion  the beautiful fruite pots provided for each child.

A special word of thanks go to all the children of our school who bring healthy lunches daily, excercise for 60 minutes a day and who are currently working hard on our schools new Buddy Bench.

This flag will now join the many other flags awarded to our school. These include 5 Green flags, Junior Entreprenuer, Digital schools, Gaelbhratach, Science, Maths plaque, Irish Aid and Pride of Place levels 1 to 4.

Funky shoe day

Dear parents,

Over the past few weeks we have come together and made a pupils council. We plan to make the school a more child friendly place. We had the idea that we should hold a funky shoe day for mental health and self awarrness week !!!We hope to do more activities like this in the future. We meet once a month and discuss things that we could improve around the school for instance to get new basket balls or to get new books in the library. We hope that by the end of the school year every child in the school will have come up with one idea to help them enjoy school more.Thank you for taking the time to read this.

From Rachel,Ella,Kate,Darren,Rory and Philip.

The hard work has started in our school garden as we get ready for this years Schools Pride of Place. The spuds have been planted in the poly tunnel. Seeds have temporarily been planted in small pots, they will be transferred into the beds at later stage when more mature. Two Mountain Ash trees have been planted near our Bug Hotel. Students are well used to bringing in their wellies ready for some digging, planting and general maintainance of our school grounds. We hope to add some new scarecrows and wind chimes this year. Let the hard work continue...

A massive congratulations to Mrs Sherwin and her Green Schools Committee. Due to their hard work our school has been awarded our 5th Green Flag Biodiversity !!

As a whole school we are immensley proud to have our 5th Green Flag. We have learned so much about Biodiversity and its impact, not just what we can change at school but in our wider community. Guest speakers have educated us as to the importance of every growing and living thing around us. Our committee has been hands on reminding us to recycle correctly, look after our birds and insects and to maintain a healthy welcoming garden for us humans and all our creatures to enjoy and thrive.

We hope to raise our Flag soon. Well done to all involved.

Healthy Cooking with Pauric

We had a great day recently when we all went to our local hall and met with Pauric and Irene White for a cookery demonstration. Everyone got to be hands on to make delicious brown bread. We got to "meet the fish" and were very lucky that Pauric and Irene brought us in a great variety of fish to see. Next we boned and chopped up a salmon, added it to breadcrumbs and lightly fried it. To end this fantastic cooking day we all had pancakes. All children and staff agreed it was great fun, but more importantly we all learned that cooking from good fresh ingredients made the most delicious tasty food that we ate heartily. A huge thank you to Pauric and Irene for this amazing day.
